=DO= New Dedicated Server!

Well now, lets get right into it...

As you may all know, we (as in I) have decided it was time for a server upgrade and along side of this server upgrade, a data center change upgrade as well.

Our old dedicated server was finally laid to rest in a dumpster behind my work and with the generosity of The Deadly Osprey Community and it's members we we're able to afford a new powerhouse! This server will serve as our main Voice/File/Game Server all wrapped up into one as it contains some of the best equipment money can buy!

Our new server:

Based on a Nvidia nForce 790i motherboard, this server sporting: 2 Intel PRO PT Gigabit Network Interface Cards for redundant Internet connection, 2 Seagate Barracuda 750GB hard-disks utilizing RAID 1 (Mirror), with 2 650watt power supplies, all wrapped up in a slightly modified iStar 4U Military case. Oh, and I forgot to mention the beautiful "yet beastly..." of a processor in this puppy, the out performing Intel 2.4 Ghz Xeon X3220 1066MHz FSB w/ 8MB Cache.

Obviously I didn't put a nice video-card in it because it's a damn server... but before it was shipped off, I did manage to play a little bit of COD4 with my 9800GTX Pro and I must say, "I think we did well."

Anyways, on to the server location. Now, before I tell you the location of the server and before you come screaming at me, know that this data center to be one of the best and most reliable in the world. Since their launch in 1983 they have developed to become not only reliable but the most fastest international conductivity source in North America. So i think that the move to Toronto, Canada wasn't a bad decision. Plus, the server is centralized to some of our busiest states: New York, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Washington D.C.

So I think =DO=, we did well!

I will be setting up FTP accounts on the new server for anyone interested.

These are all new modules for you to take advantage of to help the community! Think of it as a way to support =DO= without making an actual cash donation.

1. Journal - First off, the journal is a great asset for those who love to write. The journal was put in place so that you could keep a little "diary" for yourself to see. But, this diary can also serve as a public Blog where you can go to write updates about yourself, what your doing, things you like, or simply just ranting on about your friend who just drove their car into a kiddie pool.

With your journal you have the option either make you entry public or private. If you don't want someone to see you entry then make it private. If you want the whole world to know about your new Boyfriend or Girlfriend, then make it public.

You will contributing to the community in the form of Personal Expression. At =DO= we believe in personal expression and want you to express your feelings and be yourself. By keeping an updated journal, you will be expressing your individualism and personality. Which is what we love to see!

2. Product Reviews - ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO SUPPORT =DO=!

Just bought the greatest mouse available to find out its a POS? Review it and help the rest of us gamers out!

The reviews section is here for you to rate products on a personal level. If it be a game, motherboard, monitor, twinky, or anything gaming related, give us a review of what you think is the best and the worst of them all!

3. Recommend Us - One of the easiest way to support =DO=. Do you have a friend that would be interested in joining a well respected and fun community? Use this module to send them a invite to one awesome community!

4. Site Statistics - This isn't really a way to support =DO=, but just to serve as a means of showing you just how great the =DO= website is doing.

5. Stories Archive - Once again, this isn't really a way to support =DO=, but serves as a simple way to view all Official =DO= news.

6. Submit News - A great way to support =DO=! Submit your news about anything you want! Keep it appropriate! Find out theres going to be a new game or a new patch coming out soon? How about a tornado just went through a town near you? Tell us all about it without limitations!

7. Surveys - Support =DO= by voting in all of its surveys! If it comes to getting a new server, changing the map rotation, or just overthrowing the Chief admin, you'll find it here!

For the year and a few months that The Deadly Osprey (=DO=) has been established, we have always prided our-selfs in being a cheat free community. As we started out and as =DO= began to start growing, we soon realized that hacking was going to be a real problem, and still is to this day.

Cheating

Definition: verb; 1. cheating(a): violating accepted standards or rules; "a dirty fighter". characteristically is employed to create an unfair advantage, usually in one's own interest, and often at the expense of others.

Our Response to Cheaters

We Watch.
We Check.
We Stream.

We watch players in-game, constantly. Looking for things such as, sudden movements of characters, instant one-shot-kill, glitchers, and many other un-realistic game movements.

We check players' backgrounds. We check their Server Screen-shots. We cross check IP Addresses, Names, GUIDs.

We stream all servers.
What is streaming? Simply put we allow anti-cheat organizations, such as PBBans.com, GGC-Stream.com, Gameviolations.org, etc., access to our Punkbuster Ucon software. This allows them to not only monitor players coming across our server, but keeps known hackers from even getting on the server with use of the 15,000+ player ban-lists that are also made available to us, thanks to the organizations.

A new beginning.

To all of those who are new members to this community. I salute you. You probably do not know me. I am gl0x. The founder of this place I hope you call home. To those of you who have been with us from the start, you know me well. Over the year and some months since our birth I have loved and enjoyed serving this community that Me and Tipsy created. I spent hours and hours on this place and lots of money to make sure this baby has all that she needs.

Alas the time has come for me to shift lanes in life. I am going to be taking a promotion at work, and with that a whole new slew of responsibility and am happy to announce that I actually have a love interest that i consider a love interest. (I am a commitment-phobe...err...was). With these changes in life, also comes life changes. I can no longer accept being your active founder/leader, when I am in fact neglecting you, my community, by not being there for you in all of your needs both personal and as a whole.

It is with great sadness but great hope and optimisim that I say to you that I will be resigning from the ranks of leader and active member indefinitely. I will not be gone, merely in the background, as I have been in the past few months. I will continue to support our community financially, as it is a bit more feasable now. i will continue to do anything and everything I can for you as well. (Yes kevin, you can still IM me 20 times a day.)

With my stepping down, there is NOBODY I would trust more than my co-founder TipsyT to take over as Chief founder. I'm sure you will show him the same level of respect (maybe more, lol) that you have shown me in the past year. He is the true brains behind this project. I have merely provided a direction. He has navigated us there and pioneered new ideas and solutions. He is the best of the best and I am proud to leave my seat to him. Everyone make sure to congratulate him on his new seat.

Also if you have not noticed. Dark_Rider is also a founder. She may not of had as much recognition as others, but is a crucial part of our community. If you have any questions or need a high level of authority to talk to about anything. Tipsy,Solo, and Dark are you go-to guys. They can handle any/all situations that may arise. If I am available on Xfire you are still more than welcome to PM me and if available will be glad to assist you.

It's been a great ride guys. Remember: "Set the example." They love us because we practice what we preach. Don't forget who we do this for: Everyone.

One year anniversary

It having been now a year since the conception of =DO= (or it's genesis at least), and I feel like something should be said about your achievements as a whole and to recognize some individuals who served in making this a great place to

meet gamers and play together

When this was originally started what I was envisioning was more along the lines of a server where the best of the best came to play and be challenged by some of the best players they could be, or to break the mold of most "Pubs" out

there. Now while that didn't exactly go as planned it did however attract some of the best players I have met in other respects.

=DO=TipsyT - Our very first member of this community. Together from scratch we built what we have now. Its been hard for both of us and I could not have possibly of even fathomed attempting this without you bro. Thanks for all the work

you put in to our community and thanks for all the work that goes unappreciated and taken for granted because of it's "Behind the scenes" nature.

=DO=BadSolo66 - You know from the very beginning I thought you were a excentric to say the least, but as time passed I came around to your antics and enjoy our battles. I'm glad you're here with us to help lead this community in a new

direction..

=DO=Loosenut44 - Bro, you have been there for us in many many bad times. When the server needs populating you are always there to help out and always happy to do it. I can always count on a good laugh with you around. Thanks for the good

times man.

=DO= Dark_Rider14 - From the very begining you have not only been a dedicated teammember but actually up for more responsibility. I always feared that most gamers didnt have the patience to actually support a game and its players like an

admin is actually supposed to. Dark definitely proved me wrong in many aspects. Always lending a hand and supporting the server when needed, you are our eyes and ears at the very least. I for one and glad to have you as a member of our

community.

=DO= KevinTheRocket - You are stepping up to the plate, thats awesome. Keep up the good work, but also remember that most of the answers to your questions are fairly simple and can be found by simply using what your computer is best for.

=DO= KittySniper (and all her name variants) - I can see your anxiety to learn all there is about admining and your eagerness to take on new responsibilities. You guys are hopefully going to be big parts of our community with these roles

In an attempt to promote our perseverance through difficult times, =DO= has opened the doors to not one but TWO brand new servers to round up our line of servers, AND its not over yet!!

The Deadly Osprey is growing steadily now with every application we receive. We are now expanding our footprint in a leaps and bounds and are putting forth efforts to keep this upward trend on the rise. We have now added two servers along with our discontinuation of our previous "24/7 Airmaps" server for battlefield 2.
